Mrs. Heather R. Smith, M.S. CCC-SLP, is the owner and lead speech therapist at Happy Sounds.

Heather began her career as an elementary teacher and children's ministry director before she transitioned to the field of speech/language pathology. She earned her master's degree in communication disorders from Western Kentucky University in 2012 and has enjoyed practicing in schools and early intervention settings since then.

She has extensive experience serving children with articulation and phonological disorders, language delays, childhood apraxia of speech, and autism. She loves coaching parents and helping children and families establish AAC systems. Heather believes that meaningful connection is the basis for communication, so she works hard to foster a warm, nurturing, motivating and playful approach to her therapy sessions and helps parents establish deep connections with their young learners. She regularly includes music, movement, visuals, and sensory regulation techniques to keep students engaged and progressing.

Heather and her husband have been married for 30 years and raised three amazing sons. They have lived in Sellersburg, IN for the past 15 years and currently serve as foster parents.

Heather looks forward to welcoming you to her new in-home clinic and helping you lay a strong foundation for your child's development.
